Uniform Policy
At St. John Vianney, students are expected to wear a standard school uniform each day unless otherwise noted. Our uniform policy is designed to create a consistent, distraction-free environment that fosters community and supports learning.
Required Uniform Items
Shirts
Students must wear a navy blue or white polo shirt with three buttons and the official SJV logo. Both short- and long-sleeve options are allowed. Shirts must be tucked in if designed that way, and should be buttoned, with the top button optional.
Pants
Uniform-style dress pants are required:
- Grades K–5 wear navy pants
- Grades 6–8 wear khaki or beige pants
- Pants may not include cargo pockets, rivets, or double stitching.
Belts
Belts are required for students in grades 3–8.
- Belts must be brown, black, or navy and may be plain leather, faux leather, braided, or fabric.
- Decorative belts (e.g., colors, designs, or studs) are not allowed.
Socks
- Socks must be worn each day and should be plain and simple.
- Acceptable colors: white, black, brown, navy, or gray.
Shoes
Shoes must have closed toes and closed heels.
- Clean sneakers are allowed
- Shoes should be neat and not distracting
- Boots may be worn only to and from school and at recess
Optional Uniform Items
Shorts
Students may wear uniform-style shorts during warm weather:
- Permitted from the first day of school through Nov. 1, and again from April 1 through the end of the school year
- Shorts must be no more than 3” above the knee, with no cargo pockets, rivets, or double stitching
- K–5 wear navy shorts
- 6–8 wear khaki or beige shorts
- All shorts must include the embroidered SJV logo
Skorts / Skirts / Jumpers (girls only)
- Girls in grades K–5 may wear the St. John Vianney plaid skort, skirt, or jumper from My A+ Uniforms
- Girls in grades K–5 may also wear navy uniform-style skorts, skirts, and jumpers
- Girls in grades 6–8 may wear khaki uniform-style skorts, skirts, and jumpers
- All items must be no more than 3” above the knee
- Navy & khaki items may be purchased from local retailers such as Target, Walmart, Old Navy, Gap, etc.
Dress-Down Days & Special Events
On casual or themed days (e.g., Walk-a-Thon, Field Day):
- Shorts must have at least a 4” inseam
- Leggings or Spandex-style pants/shorts must be worn with a shirt/top that reaches mid-thigh
- Final decisions about length or appropriateness are made at the discretion of administration to maintain consistency
Additional Uniform Items
Sweaters, Vests, Cardigans, Jackets
Students may wear solid navy blue or white sweaters, vests, fleeces, or cardigans. These should be classic and traditional in style. Fleece and similar outerwear is not permitted to be worn at Mass.
Spirit wear (non-uniform clothing with the SJV logo) may only be worn on designated Spirit Days, as listed in the school calendar or newsletter.
Ties (boys)
Boys may wear ties in the official St. John Vianney plaid with a white oxford shirt that includes the SJV logo. Plaid ties are available from our approved vend
Undershirts
Only plain white t-shirts may be worn under uniform shirts.
Non-Uniform Days
On designated non-uniform days, students should dress in a way that reflects the theme of the day (e.g., Spirit Wear Day, Holiday Attire).
- Students may wear SJV logo wear, team jerseys, or clothing in school colors (purple and gold).
- Uniforms are always an option for any student who chooses not to participate.
- Non-uniform clothing must still be appropriate and modest.
SJV Uniform Closet
Our Uniform Closet, located on the stage near the gym, is a great resource for families in need of gently used uniforms.
- Students should check in at the main office to access it
- Items are free of charge, and no donation is required
- Families are asked to keep the space neat and return items they no longer need
- This service is maintained by volunteers and is a wonderful way we support one another as a school community.
