St. John Vianney School is a member of the Grand Rapids Area Catholic Elementary School sports league. This league offers competitive team play for grades 5-8 throughout the school year against other area Catholic schools. Our students learn the fundamentals required to play effectively, but more importantly they learn what is expected to play fairly and exhibit sportsmanship that shows our faith in practice. We are proud of our athletes, win or lose, because of the spirit they show.
Learn-to-Play, not Pay-to-Play

To the Parents of St. John Vianney School Athletes:
Please prayerfully consider the following when signing your children up for sports here at SJV, when volunteering to coach a school team or when sitting in the stands to watch your children play a game.
The purpose of the St. John Vianney Athletic Program is to complement the home, church and school in the development of the “whole person.” Activities of the program are for the benefit of the students, suited to their age and physical growth.
The aim of the program is to:
- Recognize the need for physical fitness for the wholesome growth of the individual
- Develop a healthy interest in sports by participation
- Provide enjoyable recreational activities which develop Christian attitudes of sportsmanship and fair play.
The program is not intended to be the proving ground for high school, college or professional sports. The program is developmental in its approach and should never
harbor a “win at all costs” attitude.
