Kindergarten

Kindergarten builds a strong foundation in early literacy skills. Through skill-focused whole group, small group, and center-based instruction, students learn sight words and build skills in comprehension and phonics. They listen to and talk about many types of books and will see themselves go from basic alphabet knowledge and writing letters to reading books and writing responses to prompts by the end of the year. Math skills progress from basic number recognition and computational skills to working with place value, shapes, measurement, money, and data. Through our Spirit Of Truth curriculum, students learn Catholic prayers, the history of our faith, and about the saints. Kindergarteners participate in Liturgical season activities and learn about the life of Jesus. Our Mass Buddies and Faith Friends join us for Mass, school service projects, and to have fun together. Students learn more about the world around them and to explore cultures and countries around the globe and basic history and civics skills while learning how we all have important roles in our society. Science involves a lot of collaboration and group work and a hands-on, STEAM-based approach to learning to care for God’s creation and how to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. Students in Kindergarten also learn social/emotional skills like rules/procedures, conflict resolution, how to manage emotions, and how to be a good friend.
