- Tuesdays: 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM
- Wednesdays: 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Position Overview:
Brighton Public Schools is seeking a passionate and qualified K-8 Music Teacher for a shared-time position at Saint John Vianney Catholic School in Wyoming, MI. This role is ideal for educators who love inspiring young musicians and fostering a love of music in students from kindergarten through 8th grade. We are open to either a long-term substitute or a permanent hire for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging music lessons for students in grades K-8.
- Teach fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, and notation.
- Introduce students to a variety of musical styles, instruments, and vocal techniques.
- Prepare students for potential performances, concerts, or school events.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and creativity.
- Collaborate with school staff and administration to align music curriculum with educational goals.
Qualifications (Per State of Michigan Requirements):
Candidates must meet the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) qualifications for teaching music. Requirements include:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a JX (Music Education K-12) or JQ (Instrumental and Vocal Music K-12) Endorsement – OR eligibility for an interim or substitute permit.
- A bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Knowledge of Michigan’s music education standards and curriculum.
- Experience teaching music to elementary and/or middle school students (preferred).
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate students of varying skill levels and backgrounds.
- Compliance with state, district, diocesean and school background check requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with both vocal and instrumental music instruction.
- Familiarity with Orff, Kodály, or other music education methodologies.
- Previous experience in a shared-time or private school setting.
