Sacrament of Confirmation for Youth
Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.

It is an incredible moment when a person of faith, confronted with the message of the Gospel, stands and accepts the Truth of God and His actions and love for us. It compels that person to mission and action according to the faith and in humble obedience to God’s will. It is a lifelong, life-altering choice that signifies the faith within them. This life of faith requires the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon these individuals so that they boldly and courageously “spread and defend the faith by word and deed” (CCC 1285). This is the call to the Sacrament of Confirmation.
We are pleased to utilize YDisciple’s Never Alone series as a phenomenal resource to grow our students’ faith as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is scheduled through the Diocese of Grand Rapids and will take place at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in the spring at the date and time given to SJV by the Diocese.
