2017 SJV First Communicants and Families, you are invited to participate in

The Art of Adoration: building friendships and making monstrances with residents of

St. Ann’s Home in Grand Rapids

Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.

Parents and students will be working side by side with residents in St. Ann’s spacious Holy Family Center as they complete this art project, enjoy conversation and celebrate this unique participation in the Body of Christ with a sweet treat. Each student and resident will make and decorate a paper monstrance to take home, and students will be asked to complete additional ones for distribution to other residents who may like to have one but are unable to attend. All materials will be provided.

Excited about making this beautiful reminder of the real and true presence of Jesus among us in the Holy Eucharist and brightening the lives of the elderly in our community? Please RSVP to Marty Best at 616-724-3132 or e-mail mbest@stjohnvianney.net by Friday, January 13th (a count is needed to determine the amount of supplies). Anyone interested in carpooling and willing drivers (leaving from SJV) should let Marty know by this date as well.

The Sacrament of First Eucharist

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

Luke 22:19

“At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet ‘in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.’
